Allah, All-Mighty, says, “And the earth: We have spread it out,

placed therein firm mountains and caused to grow therein all kinds of things in due proportion.

Among Allah’s Signs that bespeak His Infinite Divine Might and Power is that He, All-Wise, has created all things and made them in due measure and proportion so that nothing could possibly exceed its proper bounds or outbalance another. Most amazingly, when people in Australia planted a kind of cactus as a protective confinement, it went on growing and growing until it covered an area more than that of Britain! It also became a problematic plant besetting people, destroying their farmlands and even preventing them from planting such farmlands, until scientists discovered an insect that lived on cactus and put thereby an end to its wide spread. It seems that Allah, All-Wise, has created for anything that grows randomly something that confines it and keeps it within normal well-balanced limits.

In fact, such rule applies to a great many things in the world around us. For example, our Lord, Praise belongs to Him, has made the hypothesis in our bodies in order to stir the thyroid gland. But a special hormone produced by the thyroid gland prevents the hypothesis from so doing, and, hence, makes a kind of balance between both glands in the human body.

In the human body Allah, All-Mighty, has created a special apparatus for controlling liquids and keeping them in due measures, and another apparatus for controlling the rate of sugar, and a third for controlling salts. Thanks to such apparatuses, which Allah has endured man with, rates and measures of liquids, salts, sugars and hormones are kept within due proportions.

The lack of certain vitamins in the human body causes a lot of serious diseases and illnesses, called by specialists “Under-Nourishment Diseases”. In the past, it was noticed that some sailors would suddenly fall dead during a long voyage. The reason for such sudden death was not known, until it was found out, later on, that it was due to lack of certain vitamins in the body.

]size=24]This balance, which Allah, All-Mighty, Most Merciful, put in the universe, is really remarkable and amazing. For example, unless big fishes eat small ones, they would fill the seas and oceans, which would become full of fish rather than water. Another example is insects, which Allah made to breathe through special pipes, not through lungs. Being as such, they do not grow more than their usual small size that we see. If they had lungs whereby they breathed, they would become as big as human beings, and they would beset and destroy mankind. Insects have a certain limit at which they stop growing, and so do plants, animals and even human beings, according to pre-decreed Divine Measures and proportions.

If you contemplate creation of the heavens and the earth, you find countless wonders and marvelous miracles. Allah, Most Gracious, says, “And the earth: We have spread it out, placed therein firm mountains, and caused to grow therein all kinds of things in due proportion.” [XV; 19]

Plants are in due proportion, and so are their nutritional values, sizes, growth, and regeneration; otherwise their random growth would beset man and destroy his life on earth. And the above-mentioned cactus example provides clear evidence that Allah, All-Mighty, created everything in due measure and proportion.

Do not let Divine Signs that you see or Divine Verses that you hear or read without deliberation, for they bespeak the Creator’s Infinite Divine Power and Might. Allah, Most Gracious, addresses this issue: “Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of the night and day, there are indeed Signs for men of understanding, who remember Allah (When they are) standing, sitting and lying down on their sides, and contemplate creation of the heavens and the earth (saying), ‘Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose! Glory to You! Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire!’
